Are You Aware?
Approximately 1.4 million children under the age of 12 are poisoned in the US each year. In fact, children account for 85 percent of all poison victims, and over 70 percent of these children are under the age of 5. Among children ages 5 and under, the most common poison is a household cleaner or personal care product.1 Ordinary products used by adults each day around the home can become dangerous poisons in the hands of a child.2
In 1987, the EPA undertook an ambitious program to identify and compare the urgency of environmental problems. The idea was that, with limited resources, the agency should be focusing on those pollutants that pose the greatest risk to society. Among the top hazards were those found indoors, including exposure to cleaning products.3
Another study, conducted over a 15-year period, found that women who worked at home had a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women who had jobs away from home. The study concluded that the increased death rate was due to daily exposure to the hazardous chemicals found in ordinary household products.4
They wouldn’t allow stores to sell products that aren’t safe, would they????
Think again.
Seventy thousand (70,000) new chemicals have been introduced since WWII. Today, thousands of these chemicals are appearing innocuously on the shelves of your grocery store. Merely because they are for sale on the grocery store shelves, you assume these products are safe for you and your family — but many are not.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) admits that reliable toxicity data exists for only about 43 percent of chemicals in use today, and less than 7 percent of chemicals used in high volume are thoroughly studied.5
What do we do with these products? We disinfect our baby’s room with them. We smear them on our skin. We wash our clothes and linens in them, so we wear them all day and sleep on them all night. We wash our dishes in them, and we brush our teeth with them. They are a part of our lives. We don’t question whether they are safe. We grew up buying them from the grocery store. We trust that they are safe.
But, if they are not safe, what option do we have?
I tried various health food stores, but the products I found were either so expensive I couldn’t afford to use them, or didn’t work and were a waste of my money. Like you, time and money are things I don’t have to waste!
Then I found and joined a wholesale shopping club for safe, affordable products made with no harsh chemicals. I shop online or via a toll-free phone number the products I use everyday and they are delivered directly from the manufacturer to my front door.
I’ve found that buying wholesale makes more sense than clipping coupons or waiting for sales. As a member, I receive automatic rebates each time I shop that further reduce already reasonable shipping and handling costs. With the price of gas these days, it’s more cost-effective (and way less hassle!) for me to shop this way.
